Walk & Talk (Eco-Therapy)

What is Eco-Therapy and Walk & Talk Counselling? Eco-Therapy is also often referred to as nature therapy or green therapy. This approach can be particularly effective for people who feel confined or anxious in a typical therapy room, or for those who simply prefer an active and outdoor setting for personal reflection and growth. Ecotherapy, stems from a belief that we are part of the web of life and are not isolated or separate from our environment. By offering outdoor interventions, therapy and experiences for clients, we are facilitating an opportunity to explore our relationship with nature and our place in the ecosystem.

Walk & Talk Therapy is a growing practice where therapists facilitate counselling in nature spaces. I offer a few options near York. Walk-and-talk therapy is a type of therapy where the session takes place outdoors, typically while walking in a park, nature trail, or another calming environment, rather than in a traditional office setting. The idea is that physical movement and being in nature can help individuals feel more relaxed, which may encourage openness and creativity during the therapeutic process.

Benefits of walk-and-talk therapy include:

1. Relaxation: The act of walking can reduce stress and help clients feel more at ease, which may make it easier to open up.

2. Physical Movement: Walking can boost mood by releasing endorphins and promoting overall well-being.

3. Increased Creativity: Some people find that walking helps them think more clearly or creatively, which can be especially helpful for problem-solving or processing emotions.

4. Break from Traditional Settings: Being outside of a traditional therapy office can create a less formal environment, making therapy feel more approachable and less intimidating.

5. Natural Conversation Flow: The rhythm of walking can foster more fluid and natural conversation, allowing individuals to express themselves freely.

This approach can be particularly effective for people who feel confined or anxious in a typical therapy room, or for those who simply prefer an active and outdoor setting for personal reflection and growth.
